Introduction to Decaf Coffee

  What is decaf coffee? Coffee beans  that are used to make regular coffee are put through a procedure that removes the majority of the caffeine in order to produce decaf coffee. However, decaffeinated coffee still contains some trace amounts of caffeine, and the European Union requires that decaffeinated coffee contain less than 0.3% caffeine. How is caffeine extracted from coffee beans? Caffeine can be extracted from coffee beans using a variety of techniques, most of which are not very hazardous to one's health. However, there are situations when the presence of some of them can have a detrimental effect on the overall quality of the coffee. Caffeine is always taken from the unroasted, green coffee beans, and this is something that all of the different processes have in common.
